Fueling Trail Stoke: Backslope Tools and WVMBA Reward Volunteers with Real Gear

In West Virginia, the terrain is wild, the singletrack is rugged, and the trail crews are as tough as the ridgelines they ride. That’s why we’re proud to support the West Virginia Mountain Bike Association (WVMBA) with a grassroots gear giveaway that celebrates the heart of mountain biking: the volunteers. This season, Backslope Tools has donated a Clyde, Bert, and Blaze — three of our most popular trail-building tools — as prizes for WVMBA’s top three trail work volunteers. First, second, and third place volunteers will earn serious tools for serious work. We’re also excited to see our local Davis-based partner, Dirt Labs, helping amplify the word and get tools into the hands of those shaping the trails around Tucker County and beyond.

This partnership goes beyond gear — it’s a recognition of the countless hours WVMBA volunteers spend maintaining the trails that keep West Virginia’s mountain biking scene thriving. From the gnarly rock gardens of Slatyfork to the deep forest flow at Canaan Valley, WVMBA chapters are building more than just trail mileage — they’re building community. By contributing tools for this volunteer competition, Backslope Tools is proud to support WVMBA at the Bronze Level Sponsorship level — a $500 value — because we know the value of a well-placed bench cut, a properly sculpted berm, and the volunteers behind every stroke of the Clyde.

Our partnership with Dirt Labs, a hub for riders in Davis, WV, helps bridge the gap between toolmakers, trail crews, and the local riding community. Whether you’re a volunteer looking to win a new Clyde or a local just learning how to swing a rogue hoe, this collaboration is all about getting the right tools into the right hands — and giving back to the trails that give us so much. We believe the best gear rewards the hardest work, and WVMBA’s volunteers have more than earned it.
